ABOUT US

The idea of Costa Rica Backpackers was born in May 1996 during our fist visit in the country...after years of hard saving in Europe we finally came back to Costa Rica and opened the hostel in October 2001, at the time it was the first Backpackers hostel in Costa Rica, the first place to provide the Free internet, coffe and tea all day and to introduce the word "backpackers" (all of these are now standard in the whole country). Now Backpackers hostel are opening all over the country giving people jobs and dreamers opportunities...Our popularity went from strength to strength throughout the region,as we try harder to provide lots of Free facilities, good services and keep our prices low, Furthermore, the area of Barrio la california just keeps getting better and better. Since 2006 we opened the Costa Rica Guesthouse which is right in the front of the backpackers, it's a great mid-range hotel choice, for those looking with a little bit of comfort and tranquility. We have really enjoyed the adventure that Costa Rica Backpackers has been, and We hope you do too! Stephane & Vincent

Guide Book Reviews

LONELY PLANET 2006
This perennial reader's favourite is located in a sprawling complex that's centred on a beautiful free-form pool surrounded by hammock-strung gardens. Chill-out music completes the mellow ambience, though you can always take things up a notch in their attached bar-restaurant (and movie theatre). The heart and soul of this backpacker resort is the bird of paradise-trimmed free-form pool, where you can swim and sun in an urban oasis. The ambient music picks up in tempo as the daylight wanes, which is when the scene moves indoors to the bar-restaurant. Check out the awesome sea turtle tables and feast on typical Costa Rican food, or enjoy international favourites including kebabs, spring rolls and Thai curries. The beer flows as the evening wears on, though it's worth stopping by for the 'rainy-day double feature' on the big screen by Matthew D. Firestone
THE MOON BOOK 2004

This splendid, spotless, secure backpackers´ pad is in a large house with small kidney-shaped swimming pool and garden with hammocks and swing chairs. It offers a choice of clean male, female, or mixed dorms, or private rooms, plus heaps of hot water in the shared bathrooms.
GO CENTRAL AMERICA 2006
Backpackers are everywhere, swinging their bare feet in the pool, chowing down at the on-site restaurant, e-mailing their worried mothers, on the bunk above you and beside you. But the best part of Costa Rica Backpackers is the feeling of international camaraderie. Everyone's so globally-minded and approachable, you'll make friends from several different continents in just one evening.

Everything. It was very nice and clean, cool people and helpful staff and they have a real garden with a real pool (not like others hostels i have stayed in san jose where the garden is more like a small patio for the smoking area with big walls around like in jail). It makes you feel being at the beach in downtown san jose. Thanx i keep great memories from this place.

During our holiday in Costa Rica we stayed in 7 hostels. CRBP was the best we had the pleasure of staying in. The staff were great people, Juan Carlos was excepionally helpfull with booking tours and making us feel welcome!! The restaurant has great tasting food for only $5 a meal! The garden is huge, no wonder that people love sunbathing all day long. If we ever go to San Jose again this is were we will be staying, thanx to all the CRBP Crew!
